Designing for an international military community in Tokyo required sensitivity, precision, and a global perspective.
At the New Sanno Hotel, a flagship Navy property, the interiors team reimagined guest rooms, corridors, and bathrooms to create an environment that felt both familiar and culturally respectful.
The design balanced American standards of design and comfort with Japanese hospitality influences, elevating the guest experience while honoring the local context. The result was a refreshed hotel environment that serves as a haven for service members, families, and guests living abroad.
As Senior Project Interior Designer, I led the interiors team through all phases of design. My role involved client engagement, concept development, and design documentation, ensuring the project reflected the Navy’s standards while also integrating Japanese design elements. This project remains one of the most meaningful in my portfolio, blending design excellence with a mission of care for military families stationed overseas.
